Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Rana Bint Isa Bin Daij Al Khalifa, Director General of the Institute of Public Administration, affirmed that promoting a culture of innovation in government work is essential for achieving sustainability and attracting young talent. She noted that the public sector is no longer merely a traditional work environment; it is a space for creating societal impact and meeting citizens’ aspirations. Her Excellency emphasized that modern public administration requires keeping pace with rapid developments and adapting to change through the adoption of innovative practices and methodologies, particularly in light of global challenges such as climate change, technological advancement, and demographic shifts.
This came during her participation in the session titled “Strategies for Instilling Leadership Mindsets in the Public Sector, Talent Management, and Attracting Young Professionals,” held as part of the 24th Session of the UN Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.
Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Rana Bint Isa Bin Daij Al Khalifa highlighted the “Future of Work in Government in the GCC” program, launched in the last quarter of 2024 with the participation of 65 young leaders from public sector institutions across the GCC. She explained that the program represented a pioneering model for developing young government talent, combining technical and leadership skills through workshops and field training that simulated real-world challenges within government systems, delivered by an elite group of practitioners and international experts. She expressed pride in the Kingdom of Bahrain’s successful hosting of the second phase of the program, which stands as an exceptional experience and a best practice that can be replicated globally.
Speaking about attracting young talent to government work, Her Excellency emphasized the importance of engaging with the new generation through digital platforms and modern media, as well as highlighting success stories within the public sector. She affirmed that today’s youth are not merely looking for employment opportunities; they aspire to work in institutions that align with their values and create real impact in their communities. She concluded her remarks by saying: “Achieving transformation in the public sector requires a shared vision, international cooperation, smart technologies, and accurate data. But above all, it requires a strong focus on investing in human capital. Let us work together to build a future-ready, agile, integrated, and inspiring public sector.”
